November had been scheduled as the month for first fix plumbing and electrics, with Pete and his team working on another site and the first floor joists already in place.
We appointed Neil Lonergan (01538 724653) to carry out all electrical work and Steve Philips (01538 361110) to do the plumbing and heating. First fix of the services went very smoothly and took far less time than we had imagined. It was nevertheless, really hard to decide where light switches, sockets, radiators, etc. should go and we did, with hindsight, make a few mistakes and poor decisions but these were thankfully minimised by the advice we received from Neil and Steve. This month also saw preparation of the drive for gravelling. This included new kerbing to retain the gravel and prevent it from falling into the small stream we have running along the length of the drive.
By the end of the month, the barn was ready for fitment of the windows, doors and plasterboard with a very busy month ahead.
